Leadership is not about being the best.
Leadership is about making everyone else better.

My Professional Journey
I started my career in Johnston County, North Carolina in Migrant Education. After several years of working with children of migrant farm workers and students with interrupted formal education (SIFE), I got a degree in Education from Barton College, teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). Thanks to my experiences in Johnston County, I have 11 years of experience in Migrant Education, SIFE, and TESOL (ESL).
After receiving a Masters degree from Fayetteville State in Reading Education, in 2012 I took my career to Wake County. I was so excited to be teaching reading all day every day! After 3 years of teaching reading, I was ready for my next move forward. I applied and was selected for a prestigious fellowship in the North Carolina Principal Fellows program. That fellowship allowed me to take a sabbatical to get my Principal's license. After graduating from North Carolina State University with a Masters in School Administration, I taught reading one more year in a middle school to round out my K-8 experience.
In 2018, I transferred to Durham Public Schools to join a leadership team working to turn around a low performing elementary school. This school was facing state takeover and in need of restructuring and improvement. I am so excited to be using my talents and passions of working with second language learners coupled with ensuring great reading instruction!
I also am Beginning Teacher Coordinator, lead a district PLC for Latinx professionals, and am on a recruiting and hiring committee for diverse teachers and staff. As you can see, identifying and mentoring greatness is something I love to do! I believe we rise by lifting others, and I use every opportunity to share my experiences and knowledge with teachers. I am passionate about Equity, language development for non-native speakers of English, global awareness, and phenomenal reading instruction.

“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness in the world. All things break and all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you."
